S ochotníckym divadlom začínala aj v Banskej Bystrici. V roku 1933 ukončila štúdium na Hudobnej a dramatickej akadémii v Bratislave. Bola jednou z prvých herečiek s odborným vzdelaním, patrila k zakladajúcej hereckej generácii SND, s prestávkami bola jeho členkou do roku 1980. V roku 1951 – 1957 vyučovala javiskovú reč na VŠMU. Spočiatku hrávala iba malé úlohy, jej doménou sa stali najmä hrdé, panovačné, zatrpknuté, vo vnútri nešťastné ženy. Jej herecká filmografia je bohatá. V roku 1937 debutovala vo filme „Matkina spoveď“, ďalej hrala vo filmoch „Vlčie diery“, „Rodná zem“, „Dáždnik svätého Petra“ a i. Vytvorila desiatky postáv v rozhlasových hrách, spolupracovala aj so Slovenskou televíziou. V roku 1949 bola ocenená Národnou cenou za herecký výkon, roku 1967 dostala titul zaslúžilá umelkyňa. Pochovaná je na katolíckom cintoríne v Banskej Bystrici.


Beta Poničanová started acting in an amateur theatre in Banská Bystrica. In 1933, she graduated from the Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Bratislava. She was among the first actresses with a formal education in acting and a member of the founding generation of actors in the Slovak National Theatre, where she performed almost continually until 1980. From 1951 to 1957 she taught voice and speech courses at the Academy of Performing Arts. She was initially cast in smaller roles and excelled in the roles of proud, overbearing, bitter women, unhappy on the inside. She starred in a number of films, starting in 1937 in Matkina spoveď (A Mothers Confession) and later in Vlčie diery (Wolf’s Den), Rodná zem (Motherland), Dáždnik svätého Petra (St. Peter’s Umbrella) and other. She appeared in dozens of roles in radio dramas and also worked with the Slovak Television. In 1949, she was awarded the National Award for Acting and in 1967 she received the title of Artist of Merit. She is buried in the Catholic Cemetery in Banská Bystrica.
