The imposing office building designed by architect František Bednárik from Žilina was built after the fortification walls and the Hron Gate were demolished on a sloping site where the river Hron, before it was regulated, touched the terrace of the historical town. The design fully accommodates the function: services were provided to the public on the ground floor of the office building of the electricity company and three upper floors were used as offices. The fifth floor was designed for apartments. The space is structured around the staircase on the axis of the main entrance from Švantnerova street, with corridors running at right angle to the staircase and providing access to the offices. Daylight enters the corridors through a continuous vertical window on the eastern façade. The structure is softened by round corners and divided into sections by avant-corps. After 1945, extensions were attached to the building on both Švantnerova street and Cikkerova street in the form of a three-storey block of apartments and offices reflecting the design of the main building. The building is an example of the local functionalist architecture of the 1940s.
