Trinásty banskobystrický rímskokatolícky biskup ThDr. Andrej Škrábik (1943 – 1950) pochádzal z Rajca. Gymnázium študoval v Nitre, teológiu v Budapešti. Bol spisovateľom, autorom polemických prác na obranu Katolíckej cirkvi a náboženstva i príručky slovenského jazyka pre Maďarov. Po nástupe na biskupský stolec preniesol rezidenciu zo Svätého Kríža nad Hronom do sídla diecézy v našom meste. Svojím prístupom k ľuďom si rýchlo získal ich rešpekt. Počas vojny sa zasadzoval za záchranu životov. Po prechode frontu bol prítomný na exhumácii povraždených v Kremničke (1945). Nástup komunizmu znamenal nástup osobného prenasledovania, ktoré viedlo k jeho predčasnej smrti. Ako jediný nástupca apoštolov je pochovaný na miestnom cintoríne. Na budove Biskupského úradu na Nám. SNP č. 19 je umiestnená tabuľa pripomínajúca roky Škrábikovho účinkovania. Jeho osobu pripomína aj doska na nádvorí kaplnky miestnej kalvárie.
ThDr. Andrej Škrábik, the 13th Roman-Catholic bishop of Banská Bystrica (1943–1950), was born in Rajec. He studied at the grammar school in Nitra and then went on to study theology in Budapest. As a writer, he published polemics in defence of the Catholic Church and religion, and a Slovak language handbook for the Hungarians. After taking possession of his post, he moved the bishop’s residence from Sv. Kríž nad Hronom to the seat of the diocese in Banská Bystrica. His way of dealing with the people promptly won him their respect. During the war he strived to save lifes. After the frontline passed through the town, he was present when those killed in Kremnička were exhumed (1945). When the communist regime came to power, his personal persecution started, leading to his early death. He is the only successor of the apostles to be buried in the local cemetery. A commemorative plaque was installed on the building of the Bishop’s Office at Námestie SNP 19 in memory of Andrej Škrábik’s tenure. He is also remembered with a plaque in the courtyard of the chapel of the local Calvary.
