Möbiova páska

Plastika Möbiova páska bola realizovaná pre telekomunikačný úrad – riaditeľstvo spojov a osadená na priľahlom pozemku v blízkosti budovy. Sochár Štefan Belohradský stvárnil v abstraktnom diele nekonečno. Exaktne odvodená forma diela je typickým príkladom tvorby umelca, ktorú charakterizuje abstrahovanie tvaru a hľadanie konštruktívnej osnovy. Kamenná plastika zobrazuje tzv. Möbiovu pásku – plochu, ktorá má len jednu stranu a jednu hranu. Ide o deformáciu dvojrozmernej plochy do tretieho rozmeru, ktorú objavil matematik August Ferdinand Möbius. Na jej vytvorenie je potrebný úzky pruh materiálu, pričom jeden koniec sa priečne pootočí o 180° a spojí sa s druhým koncom. Nevznikne tak bežný prstenec s dvomi stranami, ale objekt, ktorý – hoci je trojrozmerný, má len jednu stranu, pričom rubová a lícna strana na seba plynule nadväzujú.

The Möbius Loop was created for the Telecommunications Office – Communications Head Office and installed on a site adjacent to the building. The author, Štefan Belohradský, created a work of abstract art embodying infinity. Its rigorously derived form is a typical example of the artist’s work, characterized by abstraction in shape and the search for a constructive outline. The stone sculpture represents an object known as the Möbius loop – a strip with only one side and only one boundary, a deformation of a twodimensional surface into the third dimension, discovered by mathematician A. F. Möbius. It is made using a narrow strip of a material by attaching the ends together after a single halftwist is added to one side of the strip. The resulting loop is not a standard loop with two sides but an object which, while being three-dimensional, only has one side – the front side and the reverse side merge into each other seamlessly.
