Popri kostoloch, kaplnkách, kláštoroch, cintorínoch a iných sakrálnych stavbách dopĺňajú zvonice obraz duchovnej kultúry a jej celkový vývoj v Banskej Bystrici. Na území mesta sa nachádzajú zvonice v mestských častiach: Kostiviarska, Kremnička, Majer, Podlavice, Rakytovce, Rudlová, Sásová, Senica, Skubín. Zvonice boli budované najmä popri hlavných cestách mestských častí, ktoré v minulosti fungovali ako samostatné obce. Počas celého roka sa zvonice využívali na zvonenie v širokej škále cirkevných udalostí. Jedným z najčastejších bolo zvonenie na modlitbu, ktoré sa oznamovalo trikrát denne. Spravidla trvalo asi tri minúty, čo predstavovalo dostatok času na odrieknutie modlitby. Zvonice sa okrem cirkevných udalostí využívali aj pri iných udalostiach, a mohli slúžiť aj ako strážnice.

Bell towers, along with churches, monasteries, chapels, graveyards and other structures, paint the picture of Banská Bystrica’s spiritual landscape and its development over time. Within the town area, bell towers are located in the districts of Sásová, Rudlová, Podlavice, Skubín, Kremnička, Rakytovce, Majer, Senica and Kostiviarska. Bell towers were mostly built along the main roads in the former independent villages that are now the town districts. Throughout the year, their bells were sounded on numerous religious occasions. Most frequently, the bells indicated prayer time, for which they were rung three times a day, usually for around three minutes – enough time to say the prayer. Apart from religious events, the bell towers were also used at other events and could serve as watch towers.
The bell tower of Radvaň is a National Cultural Heritage Site since 1966.
